Clinical Study on Anesthesia for Emergency Operation of 1150 Cases

Abstract
|
|
|
From September 1993 to August 1994, patients who received emergency operation at Korea University Anam Hospital were analyzed according to the followings; age and sex distribution, ASA classification, distribution of department, duration of
operation,
anesthetic method and agent, amount of transfusion, etc.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1) Total of 8026 operation took place during this study period. 6876(85.7%) were elective cases and 1150(14.3%) were emergency cases.
2) The ratio of male to female was 1.1 : 1.
3) The greatest number of patients were found in the 21-40 years age group, consisting of 53.9% of the patients.
4) The majority of patients were classified as ASA E-1,2 comprising of 87.4% of the patients.
5) Appendectomy was the most frequently performed operation(25.1%) and Cesarean section was the next(17.0%).
6) The most commonly used anesthetic method was general anesthesia with enflurane.
7) Operation which took less than 2 hours had the highest incidence978.1%).
8) Transfusion was performed in 129 cases(11.2%).
9) Eighty-six patients(7.5%) was transferred to intensive care unit postoperatively.
